3 Questions Worth Asking Your Partner This Week

3 min read

Most day-to-day conversation in a relationship revolves around logistics: who's picking up the kids, what's for dinner, whether the bill got paid. Necessary, but it rarely builds closeness on its own. Sometimes one different question is all it takes to turn an ordinary evening into something else.

  1. "What was the hardest part of your week—even if it looked like a normal day from the outside?" This question makes room for something that often stays unsaid, because "nothing really happened." Often the hardest things are the small ones, the kind that are hard to bring up without being asked directly.
  1. "What are you grateful for in this season of our life together?" Not grand declarations. Just pausing on something specific—a way the other person showed up, said something, or was simply present. Gratitude spoken out loud lands differently than gratitude we only feel privately.
  1. "Where do you see God in our life right now—and where do you feel like He's missing?" This one can be harder than the first two, because it touches honesty about doubt, not just thankfulness. You don't need to land on the same answer. Sometimes just asking it out loud opens a conversation you've been putting off for months.

You don't have to get through all three in one night. Pick one, sit down without your phones, and see where the conversation goes. Sometimes one good question does more than an hour of a show you're half-watching together.
